Stroll Of Distortion
(Mixed Medium: 22x28)
Stroll of Distortion

I find myself taking a very familiar stroll. I have been here so many times and it’s always the same. I have only been in the building to the right of me. I stand there on the street wondering what or where is this place. I see someone standing in the windows on the right and left but I can’t see much detail as they seem like shadows in the distance. I look around the all too familiar street and buildings. I want to walk into the building on the left but I’m drawn, nudged, toward the one on the right just like always. I’ve been in it many times before and can’t seem to ignore it. I give in to the pull of the building and enter it. As usual, there is no one around. It is a large room sparsely furnished. I look up when I hear movement above me. I hear voices. I notice a ladder leading up and climb it slowly not knowing what to expect. I step out into a large room that is well furnished. No one is here either. I sit on a couch by the window where I had seen someone standing earlier when I was down on the street. Someone comes into the room but I can’t make out who it is and sits in a chair opposite the couch.
I ask, “Who are you?”
The person replies “Get out.”
I’m taken aback and say, “But why should I get out?”
“They’re coming to get you. Get out now!”
I hear several footsteps of what seems like people running toward the room. I stand up quickly and move toward a door.
“No not that way. There is no time,” the person points to a window, “jump out now. Get out!”
I rush to the window filled with fear and start to climb out and find ropes dangling from above. I pull on them and they seem to be able to hold. I quickly shimmy down to the street and run down the familiar street in the same direction from where I had started my familiar stroll.
I wake up.
